Plant based tacos are all the rage!

Burger King’s Impossible Whopper. KFC’s Beyond Fried Chicken. Morningstar Grillers. Meatless alternatives are capturing a larger share of the protein market and the public’s attention. You can pick up on the latest sizzle with these Beyond Tacos—plant-based tacos that you will find as tasty as those made with ground beef.

Start by chopping some onions for use in a black bean salsa (and to cook with the taco meat). Taco seasoning is part of the secret behind this treat, made of ingredients like chili powder, cayenne pepper, pepper, salt, oregano, garlic and paprika. After you have sautéed the onions and added the seasoning, the spicy odors will have you dancing a jig or two before you blend in the Beyond Burger. It looks just like ground beef and should be broken up in bits as you add it to the cooking pan. What’s best is you never have to drain away any grease as you’re cooking the meat.

The taco blend needs to cook 6-8 minutes.

As it’s finishing, add a can of black beans to the onions you’ve set aside. Then slice and dice some tomatoes for the salsa as you consider what else you want to add. Things like corn, which you can roast a little for extra flavor; some cumin; a pinch of cilantro (or not); a little parsley; and a teaspoon or two of lime juice.

If your mouth isn’t watering by now, it will be after you mix the dip of sour cream, some siracha, and two teaspoons of lime juice.
